Ex-Mossad Chief Admits Israel in Alliance With Al-Qaeda

The former director of Israel’s Mossad intelligence agency, Efraim Halevy, intimated in an interview with Al-Jazeera that Israel is cooperating with al-Qaeda militants in Syria for strategic purposes.

Asked by Mehdi Hassan about reports of Israel treating wounded rebel fighters from Syria, including members of al-Qaeda’s Syrian branch the Al-Nusra Front, Halevy confided that the reports are true.

“It’s always useful to deal with your enemies in a humane way,” Halevy mused in defense of Israel’s collusion with al-Qaeda militants. Testing Halevy’s consistency on this point, the interviewer asked if Israel would ever treat wounded Hezbollah fighters, the Lebanese Shiite group that has warred with Israel in the past.

“No,” said Halevy. “With them we have a different account.”

Essentially, the Mossad spook revealed that Israel has a strategic partnership with al-Qaeda forces in the region, justifying Tel Aviv’s preference of al-Qaeda over Hezbollah because the Salafi terror group “has up to now not attacked Israel. … Israel was not specifically targeted by al-Qaeda and therefore it is a different kind of account than Hezbollah.”

Halevy effectively put his cards face up on the table, admitting on television that al-Qaeda has functioned as shock troops and at times as patsies for US and Israeli interests.

Halevy is not the only Israeli national security insider to make light of the fact that ISIS and al-Qaeda are at least temporarily aligned with the interests of the Jewish state in the Middle East.

In an op-ed for the Begin-Sadat Center for Strategic Studies, a leading Israeli security think tank, Israeli Professor Efraim Inbar argued that destroying ISIS was a “strategic mistake” because the group was a “useful tool” against Iran, Syria’s Assad and Hezbollah – all rivals of Israel.

“[Stability] is not a value in and of itself,” wrote the Machiavellian Israeli strategist. “It is desirable only if it serves our interests. The defeat of IS would encourage Iranian hegemony in the region, buttress Russia’s role, and prolong Assad’s tyranny. Tehran, Moscow, and Damascus do not share our democratic values and have little inclination to help America and the West.”

Israel’s former ambassador to the US, Michael Oren, told the Jerusalem Post in 2013 that Tel Aviv “prefers” al-Qaeda over Assad and his allies in Iran and Hezbollah – the principal reason being that the Iranian-led alliance is focused on opposition to Israel and support for the Palestinian cause whereas the Salafi-Wahhabi ideologues of ISIS and al-Qaeda are basically indifferent to the plight of the Palestinians and others oppressed by Israel, and only yearn for the restoration of an Islamic Caliphate.

Furthermore, secret arrangements were made in 2007 during the presidency of George W. Bush wherein the US, Israel and Saudi Arabia agreed to begin working together towards overthrowing Bashar al-Assad in Syria as a prelude to attacking Iran. According to the reportage of Seymour Hersh, the main method of regime change the three rogue states settled on was the sponsorship of proxy militants of the fanatic Wahhabi-Salafi bent to begin insurrectionary terrorist activity within Syria and Iran. Israel’s security was guaranteed as part of the deal, with the backwards monarchy of Saudi Arabia pledging to steer the activities of Wahhabi extremists towards the Shiite powers.

The emergence of ISIS as a “Salafist principality” in eastern Syria is a direct outgrowth of this US-Israeli-Saudi plot, first conceived and initiated under the aegis of the Zionist neoconservative hawks who took over the Bush administration in 2001 and ran it as an outpost of the Likud Party in Washington, with the Obama-Biden-Clinton team picking up where Bush’s neocons left off.

As for Halevy’s admission, it is not the first televised Freudian slip from the Mossad man. He served as the director of Mossad during the attacks of 9/11, which means that if Israel was involved in that event – and they most likely were heavily involved – then Halevy was one of its architects. Tellingly, Halevy later confided to a Jewish interviewer that “Israel and the Jewish people” benefited the most from those attacks as they resulted in an international opinion shift against Arabs, Muslims and Middle Eastern countries opposed to Israel. Benjamin Netanyahu, Ariel Sharon and other Israeli politicians and security insiders also variously celebrated 9/11 as a “Hanukkah miracle” of sorts and the greatest ever public relations boon for the Zionist state in its history to date.
